House Rules

Abbotskerswell Repair Workshop (the CIO) operates using House Rules. These are subject to periodic review.

House Rules

The work carried out in the Repair Workshop is performed free of charge by volunteers. The founding principle is for volunteers to repair items rather than restoring them and not to in any way replace the services of professional repairers.

A voluntary donation is greatly appreciated as this contributes towards our running costs.

New materials used to affect a repair may be charged at cost –  we will tell you about this in advance if the cost is more than £5 – and must be paid before the item is returned to you.

Neither the organisers, nor the volunteers, are liable for any loss that may result from advice or instructions concerning repairs, for the loss of items handed in for repair, or for any consequential loss or any kind of loss resulting from the work performed in the Repair Workshop

Once offsite, the safety of items is no longer the responsibility of the Repair Workshop

Visitors offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk.

Our volunteers making repairs offer no guarantee for the work carried out, and are not liable for any items which, subsequently, do not work properly at home.

Our volunteers are entitled to refuse to repair items. They will always try to suggest local trusted professionals to repair or service an item where necessary.

Our volunteers are not obliged to reassemble disassembled appliances that cannot be repaired.

We reserve the right to accept only one item at a time from a client.

Visitors to Repair Workshop are solely responsible for the tidy removal of broken objects that could not be repaired.

How to get involved

We are always looking for volunteers, so if you have experience in anything, please reach out and get involved. We are solely reliant on our volunteers and their expertise. Come and be part of the repair revolution!
